Details on new character classes in Etrian Odyssey II
We have already covered some of the new characters that will be available to players in Etrian Odyssey II, namely the Scout, Gunner and Pet. In anticipation of the launch of Etrian Odyssey II in June, we bring you some updated information on more character classes featured in the game.
Dark Hunter
Dark hunters were somewhat underused in the original game, proving somewhat weak against stronger foes and only slightly more useful than the poor Troubador in terms of party support. The Dark Hunters of High Lagaard are similar to those found in Etria; they can still work with either whip or sword to focus on bindings or status ailments, but they now come with some great new abilities. The key difference comes in their ability to set potentially deadly traps: in High Lagaard, dark hunters can react to either physical or magical attacks, no matter what weapon they use. With its new force skill, Bondage, the Dark Hunter will be capable of using every binding technique at its disposal to bind a single enemy’s head, arms, and legs, rendering it completely defenseless.
Hexer
In the original title, hexers were a class that became selectable at the half-way point in the game. Like the Dark Hunter, they excelled at inflicting status ailments, but lacked the useful whip to inflict physical damage. The hexer returns with an even wider arsenal of status ailments to inflict on enemies, making it the go-to class for crippling one’s opponent. With a whisper, the hexer can condemn the entire enemy party to be poisoned, paralyzed, blinded, asleep, cursed, or terrified. Any enemies that fear the hexer are powerless to obey its commands to freeze in place, attack their comrades, or even destroy themselves. The new force skill “Caprice” unloads a veritable cornucopia of random status ailments upon the entire enemy party. This one sounds like it could be devestating, but the randomness of the effects might limit its usefulness in places where it really matters (boss fights).
War Magus
The War Magus is an all-new character for Etrian Odyssey II, but it will be immediately familiar to players of the original game who made heavy use of the war medic. Combining the effects of the medic and landsknecht for a class useful in nearly every situation, the war magus can effectively fill two roles at once in your limited party. Though its skills are primarily healing- and support-based, its sturdy offensive capabilities allow it to pitch even if should all its TP be drained. The War Magus has a fairly usefull force skill called “Invoke”, which allows it to restore the entire party’s HP and strengthen everyone’s elemental resistances through the power of prayer.
