BioWare officially announces Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

While BioWare’s latest project hasn’t exactly been much of a secret, they decided to come out and make an ‘official’ statement today anyway. BioWare officially confirmed that the title of their new Sonic RPG would be Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. They additionally reconfirmed the development of the game and the slated release schedule, which would be targeted for late 2008.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood has already met great skepticism among fans, but the media insists that the game is nothing short of original and full of potential. The new Sonic game, instead of being a platformer, is a traditional RPG with turn-based battles and a colorful world to explore. With a detailed storyline containing the usual Sonic cast of characters and then some, you can expect BioWare to produce a game that we’ll be remembering for some time to come. In a way, you could think of this almost like your typical Mario RPG (whether it be Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi), only containing your favorite Sonic characters instead. This is also one of (if not the) first game in the series to be handled solely by a different developer aside from Sega and its Sonic Team.

BioWare also released a handful of new screens and artwork as well. It’s worth noting that all backgrounds in the game are hand-drawn, and beautifully drawn at that. Check out these screens below!
