Nintendo grabs an Emmy Award for DS technology
Nintendo today received yet another honor from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The awards were handed out as part of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, and showcased the Nintendo DS as one of the year’s most innovative products. The academy praised the Nintendo DS for its “pioneering touch-screen control and distinctive dual screen display”. This is not the first time Nintendo has received an award from the academy, as last year their then newly launched console, Wii, grabbed an award for its motion sensitive remote shaped controller (the Wii Remote also received an award this year alongside the Nintendo DS). A Nintendo spokesperson had this to say in regards to the awards:
“The pioneering interfaces for Wii and Nintendo DS reflect our long tradition of seeking new ways to enhance the gaming experience for users at every level. We’re grateful for this award and thank the academy for honoring us a second time.â€
- Don James, executive Vice President of Operations for Nintendo of America
As we head into the Nintendo DS’ fourth year on the market, we can surely only expect even greater innovations from the ever-improving handheld. This is an award well earned, Nintendo; congratulations!
[Update: The DS was not the only handheld system to be honored with an Emmy. The Atari Lynx also won an award in the category for "Handheld Game Device Display Screen Innovation"]

Very cool, I think Nintendo definately deserves all the praise they’re getting, the DS and Wii are changing the way we play games. Didn’t know CES was handing out Emmys too! We need to get there next year ha ha.
