DS Sales in 2007 show continued upward trend

The official numbers are in, and the DS had a tremendous year in terms of sales and market expansion. By the end of last year, the system was just shy of selling 65 million units worldwide. 2007’s second quarter saw a significant jump in sales, surely aided by the Pokémon craze. As good as that was, however, the holiday rush and the popularity of titles such as Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Mario Party DS gave the DS its best quarter sales ever, going above 11 million systems sold in a three-month period. Worldwide DS sales have been impressive, and quite evenly distributed. Continue after the jump to see how the numbers break down accross each of the three major territories.

As the above ‘sales pie’ shows, DS love is well balanced around the world. In 2007 alone, the Nintendo DS sold more than what it did in its first two years of sales. Check out the system’s lifetime sales by quarter; click on the chart below to enlarge it and bask in its beauty:

Indeed, 2007 was the best year for the DS sales-wise, and it brought us a lot of good games to play as well. 2008 is shaping up well, too; perhaps we will see the DS break the 100 million mark by year’s end!
