Software developer High Impact Games made a surprise announcement at the Tokyo Game Show today, revealing that it is working on a Ratchet & Clank spinoff title for the PSP titled Secret Agent Clank. Like Daxter, this new adventure separates the sidekick from his overprotective partner, thus presumably shrinking the scope of the game down to a more managable handheld size. The game is being developed by the same folks that brought the successful series to the PSP las spring in the form of Size Matters, which should help produce a recipe for success this second time around.

Gameplay will remain faithful to the well-worn Ratchet and Clank formula, while adding some new touches such as rythm-based mini challenges strewn throught the levels. The screenshots below suggest that the developers have been working on this title for some time already, so we expect a release date to follow not too far into the new year. Not being big fans of the previous Ratchet and Clank games, we would like to know what our PSP readers think about this: Did the first R&C outing on PSP leave you impressed enough to give this new adventure a try?
