Sony unleashes the full power of the PSP in recent update

June 23rd, 2007 by Kris

psp_333_mhz2.jpgWe know that Dark Alex’s custom firmware is a popular choice among PSP gamers on this blog, but here is another compelling reason to upgrade your PSP to version 3.50 in case you have not already done so. Sony has publicly stated that this new firmware revision officially opens up the full speed of the PSP’s processor to licensed developers, having previously limited the speed of the console to 222 MHz. Why the company felt it was time to allow developers access to the full 333 MHz clockspeed is anyone’s guess, however we can speculate that it has something to do with a couple of high-profile upcoming games. The only potential downside to this, of course, is that these fancy new titles will now be able to drain our batteries that much quicker. Since we here at PVG usually play our PSPs indoors within close proximity of a power source, we are willing to take the battery hit, especially if it means that our games will now look better by 0.66666 times repeating.
