L33t Nintendo DS sound-sensitive mod

May 22nd, 2007 by Kris

Usually this is the type of aesthetic mod we would expect to see on a PSP, not on a DS. The folks over at Acidmods have decided to go all disco on their Nintendo DS and hack it so that LEDs light up in responses to changes in the volume of sound coming out of the machine. It is a pretty neat trick, and one you can do yourself. Follow the link for a tutorial that explains how this was done without having more than intermediate soldering and cutting skills. As for the mod itself, we love it, but we wonder if this wouldn’t get more than a little bit distracting when trying to play games. On the other hand, it would be one good way to liven up the grind in games like Final Fantasy III or Etrian Odyssey.
