PSP Price Drop Finally Comes: $169
EB Games and Gamestop stores let slip yesterday that they will be dropping the price of the PSP core system (does not include headphones or a memory stick). Of course, we are still waiting for some of the unique color schemes announced in Japan to make their way over to the United States, but this is good news nevertheless. The bog-standard black PSP is now within 40$ of the DS Lite, perhaps making it more attractive to those who were still on the fence about owning a PSP (if there is anybody who was ambivalent about it — the PSP seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of device). I am interested to know whether or not this news will change the mind of any of our DS-playing readers. What do you think? Will this make you rush out to grab a PSP? From our perspective this makes the PSP virtually unbeatable — loads of great games have already been released or are coming out, homebrewers have unleashed the full potential of the machine, and for those who aren’t into homebrew, the official firmware now offers a wealth of cool functionality. This might be the best time to be a PSP owner.

I’m not sure about ‘virtually unbeatable’, but it certainly will help boost sales. Personally I won’t be picking up a PSP for a while, since there are only a few games I would be interested in.
