New Driver ‘76 Images Unveiled by Ubisoft
Ubisoft, the new owners of the Driver franchise (having purchased it from struggling Atari in 2006) are hoping to impress PSP owners with a handheld adaptation of last year’s Driver: Parallel Lines. While the console version suffered some technical flaws that made it less than a perfect experience, the future is full of possibilities for this once-loved game property. A number of Ubisoft titles like Rainbow Six: Vegas have recently been pushed back to allow for more development time, and Driver ‘76 is no exception. However, if the developers manage to stick to their current schedule, the game should hit North America next month with a European release following closely in June. Gameplay will feature 32 missions spread out across 1970s New York, as well as a selection of multiplayer minigames (reported to include a demolition derby mode, can’t wait!). A handful of new screenshots were released to European gaming sites today, and they show a lot of promise. It looks like all that extra development time has paid off, at least in the graphical department, but we will reserve final judgment until we see a bit more of the gameplay. (Hint to Ubisoft: send us a preview copy please!).
