GDC 2007: Nokia Keynote Reveals New Games, N-Gage Revival
Say what you will about the name, and the memories that come with it (of horridly failed hardware shaped like an electronic taco), but Nokia has decided to stick with the N-Gage brand for its return to the portable gaming space. Today they revealed some juicy details about their plans for “N-gage 3.0″ at a lunchtime press event at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. No word yet on whether tacos were served.
Excerpts from the Official Press Release:
As well as games from these new partners - the first to be announced being Glu’s World Series of Poker: Texas Hold ‘Em - Sauter will also be revealing new games and franchises including Gameloft’s Asphalt 3: Street Rules, Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, Brain Challenge and Midnight Pool, and EA Mobile’s FIFA 2008.
“We are reinforcing our commitment to this industry with two significant initiatives that will help the mobile games industry evolve,” Sauter commented ahead of today’s keynote. “Our N-Gage platform will deliver a global games platform that leverages the performance of the tens of millions of S60 converged devices that we are shipping each year. Likewise, our support for Java development continues to evolve with more tools for developers supporting SNAP Mobile.”
