Game Profile: It’s a Wonderful World

March 3rd, 2007 by Kris

wonderful3.jpgWhat would you do if you found out that you only had 7 days left to live? If the first thing that popped into your head was “run wild through the streets of Tokyo getting down to the beat and laying waste to mutant frogs” then we might have just found the perfect game for you. It’s A Wonderful World puts players in the shoes of “Neck”, a Tokyo punk who is forced to play a macabre game for the God of Death in various locales around Shibuya District. Luckily, Neck has been granted psychic powers and the ability to delve into the minds of passersby in the city, in order to look for clues about his condition. The game manages to pack so many sprites on-screen at one time that it often feels like an authentic downtown street scene, albeit one infested with crazed animals. Check out the new Famitsu scans and gameplay video below to get an idea of just how visually impressive and creative this game is shaping up to be.

What? A curious blend of DDR, Jet Grind Radio and Final Fight, the game has been described simply as an “action RPG”. It looks to mix all of those elements together with a heavy dose of Japanese street style.

When? It’s a Wonderful World will hit Japanese shops sometime in 2007. The trailer and screenshots below suggest that it is nearing completion, but so far we have not heard anything about a North American or European release. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Who? Square Enix is the developer behind this game, and they have put together a group which includes key members of the Kingdom Hearts development team. The fact that Square is involved makes this an almost guaranteed success in Japan and a strong candidate for localization outside of Asia.
